History

How It All Began

Hunter Chase & Company was formed in 2002 by Thomas Tracy to provide investment banking functions for real estate transactions within a community development environment. Tom previously was the co-manager of KeyBank’s Real Estate Capital Group (“KBREC”). In 2004 Edward Chu retired as Managing Director of KBREC and joined Mr. Tracy as a Principal of Hunter Chase. .

Hunter Chase initially focused on securing an allocation of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) through a joint application with KeyBank. In this competitive process, a joint entity known as KHC New Markets CDE, LLC was allocated $134 million, which was significantly based upon the community impact of the proposed investments. Today, Hunter Chase is the principal fund manager for this NMTC allocation. In addition, Hunter Chase has worked with non-profits and other NMTC applicants.

Beginning in late 2004 Hunter Chase added a number of employees and principals, many of whom previously worked in KBREC. Focusing primarily on opportunistic and value added transactions involving new development or asset repositioning, Hunter Chase has broadened its product mix to include market rate capital through several investment programs.

In order to support the investment and asset management process, Hunter Chase now has principals and employees operating
out of two offices located in Carlsbad, California and Irving, Texas. Read more about the experience and expertise of each
