Our Principals

The principals of Hunter Chase have decades of combined experience in investment banking and asset management.

Edward Chu
Senior Managing Director, Hunter Chase & Company, LLC

Mr. Chu joined Hunter Chase in August 2004 bringing with him over 20 years of experience in investment banking and commercial lending. He will co manage the company’s activities with Mr. Tracy with direct responsibility for production and fund raising. Prior to joining Hunter Chase, Mr. Chu created and managed the Private Equity Group (PEG) within KeyBank Real Estate Capital. Mr. Chu joined KeyBank in 1991 and was directly involved in raising equity from domestic and international corporate clients for investment in real estate development projects. Under his oversight more than $2 Billion in equity has been raised and invested over the last ten years.

Prior to joining Key, Mr. Chu was a First Vice President with McDonald & Co.’s Public Finance Group, with responsibilities for originating, analyzing, structuring and leading project financing and refinancing for public and non public entities. Mr. Chu also was a vice President with Thomson McKinnon’s Capital Markets Group and a commercial banking officer with Texas Commerce Bank.
Mr. Chu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management and a Masters in Business Administration in finance from the University of Houston.


Thomas Tracy
Senior Managing Director, Hunter Chase & Company, LLC

Tom Tracy is a principal owner and a Senior Managing Director of Hunter Chase & Company, LLC (Hunter Chase). He is an acknowledged expert in federal tax credits, having co-authored the Developer’s Guide to Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, published by the National Council of State Housing Agencies, and the New Markets Tax Credit Handbook, published by Novogradac & Company, LLP. He is also a contributing editor and chairman of the board of advisors for the New Markets Tax Credit Newsletter, published by Novogradac & Company, LLP, and an advisor to the Journal of Tax Credit Investments.

Prior to forming Hunter Chase & Company, LLC, Mr. Tracy was a Managing Director with Key Housing Capital, a division of KeyBank. He was instrumental co-managing Key Housing Capital, an investment banking group specializing in structuring and placing equity in low-income housing tax credit projects, and structuring and placing equity in high-end apartment development projects. During his tenure as a co-manager, Key Housing Capital raised over $1.2 billion in equity for low-income housing tax credits, and over $300 million in equity for apartment development projects.

Before co-founding Key Housing Capital, he was a tax and financial services partner with KPMG Peat Marwick, where he specialized in real estate, private placements and tax structuring. He was national director of affordable housing and a member of the Firm’s Real Estate Management Committee.

He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a B.S.B.A in General Business, J.D. in Law, A.M. in Accountancy and a L.L.M. in Taxation.

Laird A. Fairchild
Managing Director, Hunter Chase & Company, LLC

Prior to joining Hunter Chase & Co, LLC, Mr. Fairchild originated over $500 million in US real estate investments as a Senior Vice President of Overland Realty Capital.
Before joining Overland, Mr. Fairchild was a Senior Vice President and Managing Director for KeyBank National Association’s Real Estate Equity Group. As the first employee of this group, Mr. Fairchild was instrumental in developing the platform that eventually led to a successful and nationally recognized real estate product offering for KeyBank. During the five years in this capacity, Mr. Fairchild oversaw in excess of $500 million in real estate mezzanine and equity investments and played an integral role in developing all departmental procedures and objectives. Prior to his position within the Real Estate Equity Group, Mr. Fairchild was a Vice President and National Accounts real estate lending officer for KeyBank’s Commercial Real Estate Division. In this role, Mr. Fairchild initiated a relationship with over a dozen prominent Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and developed a national accounts portfolio in excess of $1 billion. Mr. Fairchild received a B.A. in finance from Miami Western University and holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management.


David G. Carr
Managing Director, Hunter Chase & Company, LLC

Mr. Carr joined Hunter Chase in August 2004 as a Managing Director and CFO. His responsibilities include oversight of the financial operations of the company and participation in its investment banking activities. Mr. Carr has over 17 years of financial experience in the real estate industry. Mr. Carr previously worked at KeyBank Real Estate Capital - Private Equity Group as manager of its Tax Advantaged Group overseeing its New Markets Tax Credit and Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) activities. Mr. Carr has during his tenure at Key had direct responsibility for structuring, negotiating and underwriting in excess of $1 Billion in LIHTC transactions. Mr. Carr started with PEG as its CFO with responsibility for financial reporting functions, including quarterly and annual investor reports and annual audits and tax returns. He also previously directed the asset management functions for the group. Prior to joining KeyBank, Mr. Carr was a Vice President / Partner with The Boston Financial Group, Boston, MA, where he was CFO for their property management operation. Mr. Carr began his career at Ernst & Whinney, leaving as a tax manager. Mr. Carr has a BA in Business Administration from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is a Certified Public Accountant.



Wendel M. Pardue
Managing Director, Hunter Chase & Company, LLC

Prior to joining Hunter Chase & Co, LLC, Mr. Pardue originated over $500 million in US real estate investments as a Senior Vice President of Overland Realty Capital.
Before joining Overland in 2002, Mr. Pardue was Vice President and Director of Mezzanine Investments for JPMorgan Chase. Mr. Pardue was solely responsible for an internal $100 million mezzanine fund targeted for institutional real estate investments. Mr. Pardue was successful in designing, implementing and managing the mezzanine investment program for JPMorgan Chase. Prior to directing the mezzanine program for JPMorgan Chase, Mr. Pardue was a Vice President in Real Estate Finance for Chase Manhattan Bank, Chase Bank of Texas and Texas Commerce Bank for sixteen years. Mr. Pardue was responsible for strategic relationships with national real estate developers and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) based in Texas. Mr. Pardue has extensive experience in all real estate property types and all major US markets.
Mr. Pardue holds a B.A. in Finance from Texas Christian University where he graduated with high honors (Magna Cum Laude). He also holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
